7 Tips to Pack Like a Professional When Moving House

Whether you’re moving houses for a job opportunity or just for your own benefits, moving can be exhausting. The longer you keep packing, the less time you have to unpack. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Packing like a pro and spending time unpacking once you’re settled into your new home doesn’t just save you time and energy; it ensures you don’t leave anything behind. Here are some tips to help you pack like a pro.

Declutter

Decluttering. It’s something we all know we need to do but something we never seem to get around to. Decluttering is as much about organizing your belongings as getting rid of them. But clutter is not always obvious, and you may not realize how much junk you’re storing away or where. That’s why it’s so important to go through your things, get rid of what’s not useful, and break down the clutter into more manageable chunks.

Donate or sell items you don’t want 

Moving house has the potential to be a stressful experience, but packing doesn’t have to be. When packing for a move, you should first make a list of everything you own. Mark the things you’re donating, selling, or trashing, then weigh yourself to see how much room you have for things you’re keeping. If the scale shows you’re packing too much, it’s time to go back through and get rid of the things you no longer need. You could donate or sell many of these items, and keep only what is necessary.

Pack as soon as you can 

Packing can be an arduous process. You are faced with the daunting task of having to pack everything you own into boxes while making sure nothing gets damaged during the move. It’s not exactly the easiest task to take on. But it’s so worth it, especially when you get to move! So, why not lighten the load by planning ahead?  Packing early can help you out when it comes to packing like a pro.

Plan your packing supplies 

Decide which items you’ll need for your new home for the first night or two.  Get all the supplies you will need to pack—boxes, tape, and everything else. Then, pack those items into boxes along with the rest of your belongings. After the move, unpack the boxes and place them in the designated spots. This will save you a lot of time and confusion, plus it will prevent any last-minute scrambling.

Set a budget 

Moving is stressful and choosing what to pack and what to leave behind during a stressful event isn’t an easy task. Even more importantly, knowing what to leave behind could help you determine a budget for your move. Tossing everything you don’t absolutely love into a box isn’t the most cost-effective option. Planning and packing up things you need rather than things you want will help you keep your move costs low.

Practice some packing beforehand

When moving house, packing is a lot of work. It is an essential process to staying organized and on top of everything. And on top of that, you’ve got to pack items efficiently, so everything fits and doesn’t get damaged. There are a lot of tasks that need to get done before the big day, which is why you need to have a deadline for your packing tasks. Have a rough idea of how long packing may take you, and you should be able to set an approximate time for it. From sorting all your things to making sure you have everything packed, there’s a quite a few administrative tasks that are involved in packing, so it’s important to keep a timeline.
